School pupils help to create Space For Peace with Tristar Homes

SCHOOL PUPILS HELP TO CREATE SPACE FOR PEACE

Tristar Homes is supporting a day which encourages peace and unity by raising awareness of the issues of domestic abuse, bullying and anti-social behaviour.

As part of international Peace Day on 21 September, the housing provider which owns and manages over 10,000 homes across Stockton, has been working with local pupils from St Bede’s Primary School in Newtown and Preston Primary School in Eaglescliffe.

Pupils aged 10 were given a leading role by helping Tristar patch manager, Chris Peters, to deliver puppet shows at the schools with the aim of teaching other young people about various social issues and behaviours which can affect a neighborhood’s peace and wellbeing.

Tristar Homes is a key partner and founding sponsor in Space for Peace, a north east organisation which works to reduce domestic abuse, bullying and anti-social behaviour across the region, as well as raising awareness of International Peace Day used to promote ceasefire and non-violence.

Paul Noddings, Tristar Homes neighbourhood operations manager and a board trustee for Space For Peace said: “At Tristar we are committed to supporting the neighbourhoods in which we work by making these safer and more pleasant places to live. By working together we aim to raise awareness of peace in our local communities and facilitate interventions that enable individuals to understand the impact of peace on the health, wealth and happiness of our customers.”

At Tristar’s annual open day in August, customers were also invited to make peace pledges by asking what peace meant to them. Over 120 pledges were completed and placed on olive trees which have since been donated to Tristar’s 2013 corporate charities – Butterwick and Hartlepool & District Hospices.

Paula McCormack of Space for Peace added: “Our aim is to raise awareness of peace in our local communities and enable individuals in our communities understand the meaning of peace and the impact it can have.

“We are passionate about bringing this awareness to the widest context possible working within many areas from schools, local authorities to health and charity and voluntary sectors
